Lady Pink...

So every so often I kinda pay homage to incredible individuals...Def. I came across this lady when I was watchin the video on B-Girl Be (check the blog the video is up)..She goes by the name of Lady Pink...

"Lady Pink was born in Ecuador, but raised in NYC. In 1979 she started writing graffiti and soon was well known as the only female capable of competing with the boys in the graffiti subculture. Pink painted subway trains from the years 1979-1985. She is considered a cult figure in the hip-hop subculture since the release of the motion picture "Wild Style" in 1982, in which she had a starring role. While still in high school she was already exhibiting paintings in art galleries, and at the age of 21 had her first solo show at the Moore College of Art. As a leading participant in the rise of graffiti-based art, Lady Pink's canvases have entered important art collections such as those of the Whitney Museum, the MET in New York City, the Brooklyn Museum and the Groningen Museum of Holland. She has established herself in the fine arts world, and her paintings are highly prized by collectors. Today she runs a small mural company with her artist husband Smith, creating massive works around New York City, constituting one of the few professional teams to originate from the graffiti subculture. Pink has mobilized artists into donating public art in culturally neglected communities."

Yeah , now u see why she is an incredible individual...and she a fellow Ecuadorian..Im gonna try to work something out to find her in NYC and speak 2 her. Wish me luck.

Dope Video--Dreamie of the Week: Victor

Ernesto Neto

"Park Avenue Armory in New York City launched its first commissioned art installation with anthropodino, a large-scale, interactive work by artist Ernesto Neto. Using hundreds of yards of translucent material, Neto suspends a gigantic canopy from the drill hall’s latticework truss, spanning 120 feet wide and 180 feet long. “Fabric stalactites” descend 60 feet to embrace a vast labyrinth of passageways and rooms. Curated by Tom Eccles, the exhibit runs until June 14"....I def. wanna go see this w/ someone

Oh I love ppl with the name Sonia...

From Death Row, Mumia Abu Jamal

"Watching the veins of nature pulse thrugh the night
sea of air, making--if only for milliseconds--daylight
over the hills, I felt renewed. How puny man seemed
beore this divine dance!

I saw, then, that though human powers sought to
strangle and poison me and those around me, they were
powerless. I saw that there is a Power that makes man's
power pale. It is the power of Love; the power of God;
the power of Life. I felt it surging through every pore.

Nature's power prevailed over the man-made, and I felt,
that night, that I would prevail. I would overcome the
State's efforts to silence and kill me."
---From his poem
Death Blossom

Life is like riding a bike....

Albert Einstein won the Nobel Prize for his theory of relativity. He said once: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.”

On that note...I'm ready to learn to ride a bike this summer lol. Im serious folks..I never learned how to ride a bike when i was smaller...blame it on me wanting to rollerblade than learn to ride a bike or maybe me being afraid of falling off a bike..idk but I never learned to ride a bike. Def. this summer I'm looking forward to being able to ride a bike through Central park or atleast my block..
Wish me luck.

Remembering the Forgotten

SMH ---thats all I can do when reading this article.

Remembering the Forgotten
"For all the somber speeches and ceremonies, an untold number of people impacted by war remain all but forgotten on Memorial Day.

In the Nation, Helen Benedict takes a look at the hidden war of women soldiers (excerpted from her recent book), pointing out that Iraq has brought more women into battle, and to their deaths, than all US wars since World War II combined. Yet a silent war rages in an epidemic of sexual assault, which seldom leads to formal punishment and probably goes vastly underreported due to fear or coercion. She notes a harrowing trend: “More female troops have died in Iraq of non-hostile causes than have been killed in battle, and several of those deaths have either been labeled suicides or been left unexplained by the military.”

The mysterious death toll includes Pfc. LaVena Johnson, a Black female army soldier from Missouri whose death in Iraq was deemed a suicide, despite evidence that she was brutally raped and murdered.

Although the Pentagon has initiated reforms to address sexual assault and provide resources for treatment and legal redress, data is lacking on who these women are and how many are denied justice. Similarly, little is known about the overlap or racial and gender oppression in the military, though Colorlines has previously reported on the unique challenges that women soldiers of color face. Compared to white male veterans, a greater share of female veterans are people of color. The pattern perhaps reflects the promises pushed by recruiters: social and economic empowerment in communities where structural sexism and racism leave many young women with few real opportunities."

graffiti art----

Like all my morning joggs i went running through riverside park...on my way there I saw this kid doing some graffiti on one of the walls facing the hudson river..I never actually seen anyone graffiti like this kid, well for the most part I caught him on the act(I guess he figure no one would be running around 5 am by riverside lol)...As I stop to take a breather( also cause I was curious), I stood there admiring the skills and the passion this dude had. You could see it in his eyes, early in the morning he was creating art with his bare hands..it was as if it was him, nature, the wall n his vision(mind u he didnt mind me staring lol)...But def. seing him graffiti inspired me more to persue art and painting...Well i just wanted to share that w/ ya. Hope ya have a blessed day and remember with dreams comes responsibilities but make sure u still enjoying life...

2-Cent Entertainment video ------deep video, reality hits home doesnt it?

The video is compelling. It depicts young people in the Lower Ninth Ward holding up signs that read: “looter,” “we’re still here,” “America did this.” Amid empty lots and damaged houses, poet Nik Richard delivers this message: “Hurricane Katrina was the biggest national disaster to hit American soil, and nearly two years later, this area is still devastated. But you know what? We made sure we preserved it strictly for your tourism. For about $75, you can take one of these many tour buses.”

The next shot: tourists drive by and people with cameras gawk. Richard looks directly at the camera and says, “It looks like there’s more money to be paid in devastation than regeneration. If y’all keep paying your money to see it, should we rebuild it?”
.....to read more about 2-Cent Entertainment log on to ColorLines Magazine website(or click the link Colorlines.com ) for the complete article about them written by Jordan Flaherty.

Taken from Shanowa--her words are on point!!!

Hmm woke up to my throat feeling kinda weird..could it be that leaving the Ac on was not a good idea??? I guess so. Anywho like my daily routine,I went jogging, wrote my morning piece and then I was off checking my emails. I noticed I was tagged on a note on facebook by Ms.Shanowa Johnson(btw great individual, my lil brother loves her lol) ...so I went on Facebook to only find a note that literaly took the words out of my mouth.Shanowa's note is the epidome of what every girl wants...So I figure I share with you her note....

"Do Gentlemen still existShare
Figured I had to say this…….-By Shanowa

What this generation lacks is appreciation. I am a very old fashion kind of girl. So yes I like flowers, candy’s, cards and small meaningful things. As a women excuse me correction a young lady I was always was taught to treat others as if you would want to be treated. So If I am treating you absolutely amazing I figure I should get thee same results. I am not asking for no Prince Charming nor the perfect guy, but I am asking for a gentlemen. Someone who opens the door, car doors, pays for dinner(not all the time), flowers just because, and so on as a gentlemen should. Some Men would probably say “ your living in a movie” but that’s what I want And I like and if you cant bring some of the things I ask for then…..goodbye you are the weakest link (because there are guys who will). I don’t settle and I would never ever do so. I am not picky at all, I will work with a guy as long as you make me smile. I like going out, movies and dinner is cool but that was so last year its not a every weekend thing for me. If you have not notice I enjoy beautiful art, So I like museums ,plays, walks, sight seeing, concerts, galleries, and so forth. So to sum up step it up step it up step it up. Treat your lady as if you want any Man to do so to your mother, grandmother, sister or whatever female is in your life. Just think about what I am saying. If you think your female or a girl you like is special or something worth fighting and keeping around show your appreciation towards her. It should not take Valentines day or her birthday for you to do so.

Quick Note

(Painting BY Monica Stewart)

There were times when I tried to change peoples definition of Sonia G...Yet in my attempt I let them redefine me once again.....Im Sonia G and if you get me than props to you, real ppl recognize real ppl....and if you dont get me, if your definition of SG is the incorrect one..well I hope someday you get a chanse to see me for who I truely am...Hope one day u understand how the stream within my body was fill with water only to aid your journey, that the pages in my book where written on to tell our story and not give you paper cuts...that our pages were not to be used in order to cut more trees down, for I am part of mother nature and the last thing I wanna do is aid the turtore that is killing her softly, not be a creation that disembodied her figure...I wanna be a creation that celebrates her features..I am a creation that no longer pays attention to peoples judgement, for the only person that can even judge me is not even present in this world..I am Sonia G, hope one day u get to meet her...

Not for all the love in the world....

Love this band...The Thrills....def. digg their song "Not For all the love in the world"

Pipe dreams fade,
and all the underdogs get laid.
Left your heart in the hands of a jugglin clown.
And so you crave recognition,
but the keys to the city went missing

People aren't puzzles to be figured out
But you just said,
"Not for all the love in the world"

Happy Bday Malcolm X !!!!!

Today is Malcolm X's birthday...Happy Bday Mr.X....I figure I share a video that I came across through DJ Greenlantern. Enjoy!

I am Beautiful

Like may young females in todays society , I been hesitant to call myself beautiful...why? to tell you the truth growing up watchin TV, reading magazines and watching videos I began to realize their is a certain standard of what is beautiful. And that type of beauty never seem to fit how i looked. I'm Latina, Ecuadorian with some asian mixture, I do not have blond hair nor do I have a 4 pack(abs)...I am 5'2 and have dark brown eyes....BUt I am beautiful. Yes I am b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l .....Every one is beautiful. All types of color, hair, body shape, accent, height, style = beautiful. There is no certain look that is more beautiful than others ----although that ideology has been implemented in society its not truth...beauty is present in every girl, in every femal, in every woman...

One of the reasons I wanted to blog about this is because I had read an article on Racewire about "L’Oréal: White = Beauty"

After Beyonce was pretty much airbrushed whiter by L’Oréal not too long ago, it’s all the more infuriating to see that their tendency to equate lighter skin with beauty hasn’t changed. When they say Freida Pinto of Slumdog Millionaire “is the new face of L’Oréal,” what they seem to really mean is she has a new face of L’Oréal.

I twittered about this article and the response was that its so sad that beauty is defined in those terms. And soon after I was forward a link by Bless Roxwelll ...she send me a link to the following videos...deep videos i must say...

Remember...you are beautiful..

New lifestyle.....

So Im up @ 2 :20 am in the morning---just had lots of things on my mind......so I figure I come and blog some of it now....

So the conclusion of the spring semester is here..meaning summer is on the corner...damn such an interesing semester--learned alot about prof. and about myself. I shall miss my fellow peers speacilly those from my Institutinal Racism class---

Well, I'm a vegen now---meaning no meats and dairy products---lol never thought I would write that line but yes I'm a vegan, for over two weeks since April 28th....
Its been hard It takes alot of self-control, and self power....things that I've manage to increase as a vegan, cause it gets hard..I constantly have people eating meat in front of me, I have temptations but I've manage to control it....now I wish that was true in other areas of my life......

Thats how I think about a certain individual------but my mind is telling me to move on....

Self-control right?...lol well def. gotta becareful about my next move cause the last thing i wanna end up being is ---> hurt, and I have too many things in mind to be worrying about some dude..I'm a young lady on the move, career moves should be my focus...but I am human and feelings comes with being human. Lets see how my next couple of days go with this individual cause if anything I wanna end this crazy cycle..

On a final note...def. ladies take care of yourself :spiritially, emotionally, and physically...make sure ya health is on point..go to the DR make sure ya reproductive systems are ok, that ya have enough vitamins in ya system---remember health is key in life, cant make power moves with a poor health....(hint* thats why I have that pic. @ the begining of the blog) just some visual image...Peace

Sick out of my mind...

"Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love."

I don't recall where I got that from, I dont remember if it was forward it to me or if I just happen to bump into it.... but its so true.

Wednesday evening I caught a bad case of a stomach virus. Yes a stomach virus. Since then I been in bed...I always say I want to sleep in but that was not the way I wanted to go about sleeping in. I've been taking 3 types of medicine and have just started to feel better.

But not only has the stomach virus made me sick, but lately ppls actions have made me sick. I understand I am a unique individual, I confuse a lot of ppl and my actions at times may seem selfish but @ the end of the day I'm just Sonia G:human. For a new friend, understanding Sonia may be hard. But I would figure someone that knows me well enough, someone that I've open my heart to would understand me and cope with my changes and actions. However, I guess I put too much trust in ppl. And I'm @ fault for that.

A certain individual wanted to do nothin with me that he even erased me from his facebook....smh. To think we were grown folks, he made such a kidish move. I would have cried about it, would have felt some type of way about his action and his disconnection from me but I am at peace. If anything I find myself laughing at the situation.

All I can say is @ the end of the day there are things you can't have it the way you want it and all you can do is suck it up and keep it moving.

But anywho I just wanted to quickly blog about this, but definitely I'm out because I am still trying to get better and need my rest.

-Love, Sonia

Thinking of a new tat...

Thus, far I have 3 tattoos. Many would think its not professional but @ the end of the day my body is my temple. In my p.o.v I am comfortable getting tattoos because I chose to get them for myself, and they are art pieces to me. I dont get tattoos because "its cute" or "its in"...anywho I am looking forward to my next tattoo. And def. looking at this pic. I want to get something very original and get it done in a traditional Thai tattoo style with a manual needle....

I Think I Can Maybe!!!

I love it...this is an art piece by Andrea Hopkins
I found it on Indigenous Artist website ...pretty dope.

Dreams? what do they mean??--

Woke up this morning with my friend Uko IM'ing me about some weird dream he had...In his dream he was getting arrested, somebody had snitched on him for doing something he didnt do...

So I started to think about my own dreams. I dream but dont pay no mind to it.Once I wake up, I 4get about dreams or nightmares. The ones I recall are dreams that have to do about childhood memories. I've found myself dreaming in both black & white and color. I sometimes dream the same dream over and over again. But like I said I dont think anything of these dreams, they are just dreams. right?

I googled what dreaming is and this is what it said: We realize that your dreams are unique. No other individual can have your background, your emotions, or your experiences. Every dream is connected with your own "reality". Thus, in interpreting your dreams, it is important to draw from your personal life and experiences.

Remember that a dream unifies the body, mind, and spirit. It provides you with insight into ourselves and a means for self-exploration. In understanding your dreams, you will have a better understanding and discovery of your true self.

So I guess I should start looking into my dreams to understand and discover my true self....hmmm wish me luck in that journey
